Searching for lost partitions
This function is available during
Partition Selection phase of the recovery. Using this function one can attempt to locate volumes otherwise lost. For example, when partition table is damaged and no volumes are visible, "scan" function can reveal the volumes still on disk.
What does this operation do?
During "Scan" program checks sectors most likely containing partitioning information for missing partitions. Scan speed is faster than during normal disk analysis, but still may take about 10-20 minutes to complete (depending on many factors).
When disk scan is finished, the volumes found (if any) are added to the main volume list. Their "Type" field is set to "Scan" to indicate that there is no corresponding partition table entries. Volumes already listed will not be added twice. Restarting scan for a second time will thus be useless - it will not add any more information to that already known.
